Toulouse v Liverpool live text commentary

*17:22* It's all over here in Stade Municipal and Liverpool have nicked it by the solitary Voronin wondergoal. Which can't be a bad way to nick a game. Dreadful stuff really, in the hottest of circumstances. Liverpool will be glad to have left with the win and more importantly the away goal.

*17:19* Mascherano just goes on a 40 yard run only to be fouled 5 yards from the penalty area. The poor fella looks like he's just finished the marathon. Bless.

*17:17* Prize for most obvious comment of the day - John Murray on fivelive has just said 'Sissoko looks like the freshest man on the pitch!'

He's been on the pitch less time than anyone.

*17:12* This has been a seriously average game by anyone's standards. If it hadn't been for Voronin's goal I wouldn't be writing this now. About as dull as George Galloway's mouth.

*17:08* Torres gets his first real run at the defenders and it comes to very little. Damn, not £20 million worth there... Ooops.

*17:06* Torres is coming on for Voronin. The big man has played well and scored a cracker. Let's see what the real big man can do. Is Rafa thinking of giving him some match practice ahead of he game against the Blueskis?

*17:04* The question of the day, is 'Where can you buy a non-logo replica kit like Liverpool are wearing?' - That's from Jace88. Well Jace, we err, haven't got a clue. We'll look into it.

*17:00* Riise just took a free-kick, and it was absolute pony droppings. Apart from that little's happening in the heat of France. I'm sure the boys won't be indulging in a Toulouse sausage on the way home.

*16:56* The shooting by the Toulouse players is about as good as Dick Cheney's. That is all I have to say on the issue.

*16:56* Gerrard Off! Ha ha, not really, he's just been subbed in place of Sissoko.

*16:55* Chance for Toulouse Elmander has an attempt on goal after a bit of a mess at the back by the Liverpool lads. Comfortable save by Pepe.

*16:52* I didn't describe Voronin's goal very well before because I was in the process of wetting myself. From about 30 yards, the Ukrainian bouncer hit the ball on the half-volley into the top right hand corner of the net. As Alan Partridge would say - Shiiitt!

*16:50* Gerrard slaps it over after great build-up play between him and Babel. The dutchman has picked up since half-time where he looked weary.

*16:48* Elmander booked for a rather dreadful tackle. As predicted Benayoun is off, Riise replacing him slotting in as a standard left winger.

*16:44* Crouch chance! Yes that's chance not dance. One on one with the keeper after a bit of defensive hooplah, but the keeper gathers safely and bravely.

*16:42* There are over 600 Reds fans here in Toulouse, which in my opinion is a terrific effort given that it's in the afternoon, a qualifier and in France.

*16:41* Series of corners for Toulouse which come to absolutely nothing. These French boys have obviously been working hard in training on the set-pieces. And wasted their time.

*16:40* It's still got all the pace of Michael Carrick at the moment. Plenty of action in the middle of the park, but no one wants to put in the lung-busting work. I don't blame them. It's actully hotter than the sun in Toulouse.

*16:38* Liverpool free kick. Stevie fouled cynically. Dirty.

*16:34* Voronin looks like a hard man's Manu Petit. Much harder.

*16:31* The action's back on! Toulouse have had a couple of shots since the ref blew his whistle. In all fairness, calling them shots, is like calling a frontal lobotomy 'fun'.

*16:25* I'm of the opinion that Carmen Electra is a sexy lady. But given the choice between taking her for a drink or watching Andriy's goal over and over again... I'll be a thirsty man.

*16:17* Half-Time - Toulouse 0 - 1 Liverpool.
I think Rafa and his redmen would have taken that after the first 45. I'm trying to find exciting things to say about the match, but the only thing I can think of, is that I'd rather be in Toulouse than here in Pie Towers.

I predict changes at half-time. I don't think the less than 100% players will cope for another half in this heat. It really is 'cook eggs on the bonnet of your car' territory.

Possibly Benayoun off.

*16:13* Wwwwhhhhaaaaattttaaaaggggooooaaaaaaalllllll - Andriy Voronin nearly wipes France of the face of the globe with a shot that was as accurate as it was powerful.

That's livened a very average game up a treat. I don't think I'd be saying that if it was Toulouse who'd scored.

*15.59* Chance! But missed. Babel who's been the best player on the putch so far set's up the captain on the edge of the penalty area and he scuffs it wide. I blame the sun.

*15.55* What you've missed so far: Absolutely nothing. We've had a free-kick go close from Stevie, and John Elmander the Swedish forward had an attempt blocked by Jamie Carragher. To pass the time, I've been playing room escape games.

*15.50* Woohoo we're back, a little like Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct 2.

*15:45* Apologies to all those tuning in for commentary. We're having technical difficulties at the moment which is preventing us from updating the site.

*15:10* A word of warning to everyone who thinks this is going to be a breeze today - Toulouse beat the eventual ligue 1 winners Lyon last season. OK, they're no Barca but we need to be careful. The dangerman for them is John Elmander, their top scorer last season, apparently he's class.

*14:54* The weather in Toulouse is a moderate 97 degrees... W-w-w-w-w-what??? Jackie Charlton nearly died at USA '94 in those conditions and all he was doing was shouting and eating Weetabix. This is going to be one heck of a test today, even if the oppo aren't exactly Barcelona.

*14:45* Ladies and gentlemen we have a team. It's a dramatic change from the Villa game and sees petulant peter back in the side after he threw his sweets out of the pram earlier this week...

Reina, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Arbeloa, Benayoun, Gerrard, Mascherano, Babel, Voronin, Crouch.

Forget the Crouch/Voronin combination, I'm more interested in seeing Marcus' brother rampaging down the right wing today. Babel's first start in a competitive fixture will be fascinating. If the rumours are true, he could be today's game-breaker.

Will we see Benayoun cutting in from the left-flank is he did so effectively (sometimes) for West Ham, or will he be under unstructions to stick to the sidelines and draw the defenders away from Crouch and Voronin?
