Liverpool set to become Europe's number one club
Liverpool are set to become Europe's top ranked club ahead of the 2008/09 season.
The Reds are currently third in UEFA's official rankings, which take into consideration each team's performances in the previous four Champions League campaigns.
And having won the tournament in 2005, reached the final in 2007 and then the semi-finals this season Rafael Benitez's side are the continent's top performers.
AC Milan and Chelsea occupied first and second this year however the Italian's have failed to qualify for next season's tournament while the Blues have accumulated less points in recent campaigns despite reaching this month's final in Moscow.
Of course, this gives us fantastic bragging rights - it's news that will almost certainly disappoint fans of Manchester United. But more importantly it means we will be among the seeded teams for next season's competition and will therefore avoid all the half-decent sides in the qualifying rounds.
We've all known for years that Liverpool are the best club in Europe - now it's going to be official!
