Tottenham Hotspur 0-2 Liverpool: Have your say

Liverpool signed off the season with a 2-0 win at White Hart Lane this afternoon as Fernando Torres made yet another mark on the history books.

The Spanish striker ended what has been an incredible debut season littered with records and landmarks by setting a new-record goal haul for a foreigner in a maiden Premier League campaign.

The former Atletico Madrid man followed up Andriy Voronin's opener with his 24th league goal of the season to surpass the previous record set by Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy during his first year at Manchester United. It was Torres' 33rd strike in all competitions.

The game may have been a meaningless and lacklustre affair, illuminated only by the visitors' two second-half strikes, but victory for Liverpool did much to demonstrate the strength in depth Rafael Benitez has been so keen to point out. The Reds' recent final-day record makes quite impressive reading but, in days gone by, an insconsequential trip to White Hart Lane (or any other stadium) would likely have resulted in a drab but not entirely unexpected defeat.

The fact that Benitez could name a striker as inept as Voronin and a 19-year-old left back in Emiliano Insua and still get a result speaks significant volumes for the future. The Spaniard's main target for the summer must now be to add quality, while maintaining a balance which will allow his side to hit the ground running come August. If Liverpool are to emerge as serious challenges for next season's Premier League crown they cannot afford to allow Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal a headstart.

Finally, Benitez's squad may have raise eyebrows among the more observant supporters. No Peter Crouch, no Xabi Alonso, no John Arne Riise, no Jermaine Pennant. He can hardly claim they were being rested now, can he?

What did you make of Liverpool's performance? Were you pleased that a makeshift line up with nothing to prove still produced the goods? And what did you make of the absences? Is that the end of Crouch, Riise and co?
