In the aftermath of last week's Champions League draw Emmanuel Adebayor was first Arsenal player to come out and make a bold statement of optimism.
Arsenal face Liverpool three times in eight days in early April and the Togolese striker, who has been pivotal to the Gunners' success this season, was quoted as saying, "We're confident we can win all three."
Now it may be that it was a statement made from fear or doubt. Nobody, as the saying seems to go these days, wants to draw Liverpool in Europe. However, if Adebayor is truly confident then he obviously hasn't read the script of Liverpool's European adventures.
Under Rafael Benitez we have thrived in the role of underdog, marching our way to two finals in three years against all the odds.

This Fernando Torres song is awesome. Set to shake the very foundations of the Kop for sure.
I'm sure you've heard it already, but just in case...
The lyrics:
His armband proved he was a Red
Torres, Torres
You'll never walk alone it said
Torres, Torres
We bought the lad from sunny Spain
He gets the ball he scores again
Fernando Torres is Liverpool's number nine

Arsenal in the quarter finals, Chelsea or Fenerbahce in the semis. The route looks tough.
But that is what Liverpool must overcome if they are to make it to Moscow and a third European Cup final in four years.
Before I get carried away and make the boldest of bold predictions let's look at the immediate task - Arsenal.
As the fixture list stands Liverpool will face Everton on the weekend of March 30, Arsenal on April 2, Arsenal again in the Premier League on April 5, and then the second leg against the Gunners on April 8. And that's not to mention Manchester United on March 23. Some run of games, isn't it?
Now if I had my optimistic hat on I'd say we'd win them all. On our day, we are capable. If I had my pessimistic hat on I'd say our season could crumble like a burnt Aunt Bessies. But if I had my realistic hat on I'd say a slip up is inevitable.
Obviously that won't be easy to stomach as losing to any of those three clubs hurts. But winning five games on the trot against opposition of that calibre may be too much to ask.

Firstly, let me welcome myself back to the blog. I've only been gone since Monday I know, but what with all that went on in Milan it seems like I've missed weeks worth of news.
As for the game, that were great weren't it?
I didn't fly out of Gatwick until Tuesday morning but arrived outside the magnificent Duomo Cathedral in plenty of time to enjoy a few beers and the beautiful sunshine. The atmosphere was awesome and instantly took me back to Athens last May. As the lager flowed and the footballs flew, there was an overwhelming feeling that it was to be our night.
The bus journey to the San Siro was magic too. The chanting was endless - as was the bouncing - and the sense of camaraderie sent shivers down your spine.

I've been sitting here thinking about this all day, not really knowing how to write this without making Stevie G sound like a crap captain. But that's not my intention.
Stevie and Nando are our best players they bear the burden of expectation every time they play and for Stevie it's conceivable that the weight of the captaincy hangs heavily on his shoulders sometimes.
For me, I would without prejudice, give the armband to Mascha next season now that we know that he's ours. He's in a perfect position to do it, and as long as his English is good enough, it's a no-brainer. He's a remarkable performer and his passion is inspiring - he for me was easily the best player in the pitch in the San Siro.
Losing the captaincy would allow Stevie to play a completely free role on the pitch, to spread his wings and stop worrying about other players. Stevie cares so much you can often see it etched on his face, to remove some of that pressure can only let him develop as he enters the very best years of his career.
Is this a feasible move, or am I talking crap? If not Mascha - whom?
