Expectations for the reds in 09/10?

sweetshop.jpg

Sorry about the uninspired title, I have a hangover as big as Babylon and my liver feels like it's been tattooed by an Antelope.

As I sit here, festering and sporting a t-shirt which can only be described as 'a bit gay', I was thinking about what I, as a fan want my team to achieve in the coming season, and I conveniently surmised that "I'm not sure".

For me, much rests on the next couple of weeks. We hear constant speculation about the future of both Alonso and Mascherano, and it's something that needs to be resolved. If we are resigned to losing them, so be it, but let's make sure it's for a fee that would make even the Sultan of Brunei weep gold tears.

Phoenix from the flames

Upon reading this, you ought to be salivating with Pavlovian expectation. Pies has been back in pre-season training, passed the statutory drug test (just), rejected a $674,800,348 offer from Real and commited its future to the 'club'.

We've slimmed-down, grown up and lost a little more hair since you last joined us (in no small part due to the refinancing antics), but as of today we'll be bringing you the very best from L4, Melwood and the back streets of Merseyside as Liverpool attempt to ascend to the top of the Premier League without oxygen or assistance from an air ambulance.

Watch our mis-placed hope turns to bitter vitriol, promising signings turn into Ali Dia failures and stay with us for maybe, one of the most exciting title chases in years.

So is there anybody out there? C'mon give us a cuddle and make us feel back at home.

United struggle to sell allocation

kop_24012008.jpg

Best supporters in the land we hear them declaring time after time. Really? Their biggest game in nine years yet, yesterday afternoon, Manchester United's ticket office still had a small number of tickets remaining for the Champions League Final.

Only 21,000 tickets allocated per finalist, and United still couldn't sell their full allocation. How do I know? Because a mate of mine (yes a mate who's a Manc, shameful isn't it?) rang up United's ticket office and was told there were tickets remaining if he wanted to buy one.

Now if we'd reached Moscow, I guarantee there wouldn't have been a ticket available for love nor money despite the logistical and financial restrictions of getting to the furthest possible destination for a European final UEFA could have chosen.

Having travelled to Istanbul and Athens in recent years - maybe not quite as far away on the map yet still a hell of a trek to get to - and witnessed first hand how many fans we took to both finals, I'm 100 per cent convinced that had it been us rather than Chelsea who won through to the final we would have shown United just who the best supporters in the land are.

DIC to seek fan presence on Anfield board

Thumbnail image for liverpool_crest.jpg

As the battle to gain control of Liverpool FC continues as we head into the close-season, sources within prospective investors Dubai International Capital (DIC) have given their popularity amongst Reds fans the world over a sizeable shot in the arm by declaring their intention to seek supporter presence within the Anfield boardroom, should they complete a takeover.

With the ever popular Tom Hicks (yeh right) adamant that he will not sell his 50 per cent stake in the famous old club, and his estranged partner George Gillett equally insistent that his own stake will not end up in the hands of Rick Parry's favourite Texan (hmmm), it could still be some time before the club returns to something like normality, including keeping its dirty linen in-house.

With Everton dropping points yesterday, Steven Gerrard making his 300th Premier League appearance and Fernando Torres chasing his 30th goal of a remarkable season, Anfield was set for a big day - and the visit of Blackburn didn't disappoint.

While we furiously turn our scribbled notes into a match report, feast your eyes on the best of the images from our mates at Getty of today's 3-1 win - and make sure to keep coming back to Liverpool Pies for all the post-match analysis and whatnot.

Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool - Another picture special

crouch_wings.jpg

Another trip to Emirates Stadium, another 1-1 draw. Not a bad week for Liverpool on the whole.

Having failed to nick the win we could have done without Everton beating Derby, but you look at the opposition and the team we sent out and it has to go down as a hard-earned, well-deserved point.

As always we've put together the best images from the game for your viewing pleasure. Unfortunately our friends at Getty failed to get a snap of the big man scoring, but hopefully the celebration pics will make up for it.

New Mascherano chant - to the theme tune of Evita

mascherano_goal_read.jpg

I first heard this sung outside the Duomo in Milan but it was again doing the rounds before the derby on Sunday.

Apparently the song police have been hacking it apart and changing it on RAWK already, but this is the version I've heard.

To the tune of Don't cry for me Argentina:

Mascherano from Argentina,
The truth is he is a Scouser,
He hates United,
He hates the Blue shite,
His real name's Tommy,
Macherano...

Followed by a chorus of Ja-vi-er Mas-che-rano (but with 'Tommy' not 'Javier').
