After admitting yesterday that Valencia's superstar forward David Villa, 26, was one of the names on his summer transfer hit list, Reds boss Rafa Benitez has now performed something of a u-turn by revealing he will not be making an offer for the Euro 2008 top goalscorer.
Instead, when quizzed about alternative targets for the forthcoming campaign, Benitez remained coy on the subject of apparent interest in Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane. However, he did admit the Republic of Ireland record scorer, who recently turned 28, was one of the players on his radar: "I said the other day that he is one of the names we had on our list, but I can say at this moment that it is not an option for us.
"We know Villa is a very good player, we know the price and we know the players we have, so when you consider everything we decided he was one of the names, but at this moment, not our target. Keane is one of the other names and okay we are still working with other names. We were in contact and we will see now."

When Harry Kewell signed for Istanbul-based Galatasaray following his summer release from Liverpool, the Australian winger was accused of being insensitive and disrespectful to the the memory of the two Leeds United fans, Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight, who died ahead of the Yorkshire club's UEFA Cup tie with the Turkish giants in 2000.
However, Kewell who spent eight years at Elland Road before moving to Anfield in 2003, retorted: "My love and respect for Leeds and what the club has done for me will never change, no matter what anyone says about me and whatever their motives are. My sense of sorrow and sympathy for the families and friends of Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight will always be with me.
"I chose the number 19 shirt when I signed for Galatasaray as a sign of respect for Leeds because that was the number I got when I first became a regular member of the Leeds starting XI. I felt that it might be a way to demonstrate that I had not forgotten where it all started and I was hoping that in a small way it would help the healing process of the tragedy."
